I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University circa 2011 with degrees in Art Education and Craft and Material Studies. I’ve been a high school sculpture teacher for the last 12 years. I value the relationships I’ve built, the creativity I’ve shared and the long-lasting skills I’ve learned along the way (teacher voice, sarcasm for the elite, superb tidying & extreme multi-tasking). I deeply appreciate knowing that I help cultivate a community where my teenage students are less afraid to be real and weird.
The art I personally produce is either a reflection of my feelings (I’m a big feeler) or to aesthetically please the eye of the beholder. I think every art piece on display should have a little note next to it describing what the artist was going through at the time. It helps the viewer connect more. I believe that the purpose of art is to share an experience, make you think, or to just engage; art needs to evoke a laugh, a cry, bewilderment, astonishment or all of the above! Teeny tiny detail and repetition are my vices when I am having a “moment”; it helps me lose track of time and regain my sense of self.
I really like lists. How do people live without them?!
